OPENING CEREMONY
The opening ceremony started with an artistic performance followed by a series of opening speeches with Zhang Xinsheng, IUCN President, Audrey Azoulay, UNESCO Director General, Li Keqiang, Premier Minister of the People's Republic of China, David Ige, Governor, State of Hawaii and Benoît Payan, Mayor of Marseille.

Followed by an interactive session of exchanges chaired by the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron with Barbara Pompili, Minister of the Ecological Transition, Sebastião Salgado, Brazilian social documentary photographer and photojournalist, Frans Timmermans, Executive Vice-President, European Commission, Mahamadou Issoufou, former President of Niger, Christine Lagarde, European Central Bank President and Gilbert Fossoun Houngbo from the International Fund for Agricultural Development.
The ceremony culminated by a series of conclusion on biodiversity-climate synergies by Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Prime Minister of Greece, Charles Michel, President of the European Council, Emanuel Macron, President of France and Harrison Ford, Conservation International.
The IUCN World Conservation Congress goes until 11 September 2021 in Marseille, France, in a hybrid format, which will enable a large number of participants to join online.
